Should language be a barrier to good music? Personally I don't think so, as I have never found listening to a band who perform in their native tongue much of a problem.
In my record collection sits many a release by bands who sing in Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, French etc and I love them all. Yet one band who do sing in their own language sit head and shoulders Chant De Bataille - Manigance - Recidive all the rest, a band who I think are one of Chant De Bataille - Manigance - Recidive premier progressive metal bands doing the rounds at this moment in time, and they are also a band who are criminally overlooked because they do not sing in English - their name is Manigance.
Manigance play a hard, aggressive and highly melodic form of progressive metal with splashes of hard rock thrown into the mix for good measure, and probably would, I think, be more well known and a bigger name if they did sing in English. Yet if they did change languages they would lose some or all of the magic that makes them the great band Reggae In The Grass - Various - Reggae In The Grass they are.
And that magic I spoke of can easily be found in the vocals of Dider DeLsaux, whose emotional delivery brings the best out of the music of Manigance. For even without understanding Chant De Bataille - Manigance - Recidive is being said, I can still feel the passion and love with which the man infuses the songs and music of the band.
This passion is then carried through to the amazing twin guitar attack of Francois Merle and Bruno Ramos, and then powers on right into the rhythm section and beyond. Another fantastic album from a band that should be on the shopping lists of any so called progressive metal fan.
