Album Notes. He has, in equal measure, based his career on virtuosity, raw emotion and a funky, yet blistering signature style. The guitarist, while touring and recording for 10 years with the world renowned "First Family of Funk," the Neville Brothers, has created fluid and coherent bodies of work on his own. In addition to being in demand as a phenomenal guitarist, his skill as a songwriter has caught the attention of artists like Aaron Neville, the Neville Brothers, blues artist Coco Montoya, zydeco artist Zachary Richard and film director John Sayles.
Renowned for his awesome virtuosity and unmistakable sound, his performances have been featured on recordings by Twisted And Tossed - Brian Stoltz - East Of Rampart Street as diverse as Bob Dylan, Edie Brickell, Linda Ronstadt, the Neville Brothers, Dr. John and Aaron Neville to name a few. Brian is currently touring and recording with Porter-Batiste-Stoltz,the Twisted And Tossed - Brian Stoltz - East Of Rampart Street Meters, and is touring the country leading his own band in solo performances.
He has also been travelling with the "Ultimate Six String Showdown" who along with himself features fellow guitar slingers Tab Benoit and Jimmy Thackery. He has performed on numerous music videos and his work has been called the highlight of movie soundtracks such as John Sayles' City of Hope and The Twisted And Tossed - Brian Stoltz - East Of Rampart Street Quinn. Along with Brian, the band consisted of members from Pink Floyd, The The, and the Neville Brothers quickly gaining a reputation as somewhat of a supergroup.
A shake up at the record company left some key players out of a job and Big Deep dropped from Tangled label shortly before Bridging The Gap Marly Marl Remix - Nas - Unforgiven record's official release.
During this same period, Brian managed to find time to go on the road with Dr. Soon realizing that Big Deep was not as deep as it should have been, he returned to his roots and travelled and recorded with Dr. John for the next year, exploring the funky side of life. With the ascetic title Brian came up with on one of his frequent trips to India, Starving Buddha is rhythmically and texturally complex yet easy to listen to.
A humorous and desirable dark aura surrounds this record winning it critical acclaim and great reviews for an internet only release. Brian has been wooing fans for years and with his current project, a new CD Tangled "East Of Rampart Street" scheduled for release Januaryhe is showing himself to be an exceptionally talented singer and band leader.

Music opens up so many doors. Thanks for the great music. The Brian Stoltz cd is killa! Really good guitar work and I hope to hear more from Brian in Twisted And Tossed - Brian Stoltz - East Of Rampart Street future. Not a weak track on the thing. The Playmate in the thong bikini who delivered the cd on a satin pillow was a nice touch too! Thanks a million, CDBaby!! Funky Forever!! Radlist review of Brian Stoltz's East Of Rampart Street January We all know how it often takes time for a CD to grow on you, and the first listen isn't always what you think you'd expect Well after this morning, I now have a different attitude about that whole concept.
From the first few seconds, the Brian Stoltz CD, "East of Rampart Street" immediately grew on me and everyone else within ear shot in the office this morning, with everybody dancing and grooving at their desks and work areas. The ones sitting all got funk neck going on as I watch them!!! The guitar work is great throughout, from sparse funk single note riffs to thick and heavy textured solos and fills.
There are some drum loops used, but Brian does them extremely well and they always fit. He also pulls of some wicked bass playing too!! This CD has a life, breathes and easily stands on it's own Mostly funk and each track very different from the next.
There are three songs that break away from the funky theme, but they have their place here and fit well. One of them "My Debbie Lou" which is a honky tonk swing type tune has great pedal steel and rockabilly guitar riffs. These three songs are grouped together on the CD, followed by three more funk drenched Stoltz originals. Every song has it's hook and none of them have to stretch Seeing this all done live will surely be something to hear and see!
This effort is definitely something to be VERY proud of!! You get one hour, one minute and seven seconds and thirteen tracks of mostly thick unadulterated funk! This CD is steeped in, and drips the funk. It's the kind of stuff that can get you a speeding ticket, if you're not careful. Just follow the bounce and have a ball! Log in. Keith Elliott.
