Though all are enjoyable, the cast albums sound more natural, more enthusiastic, and more spontaneous than the (later) movie soundtracks/5(27).

  4. With a run of performances, 's Bye Bye Birdie was the first Broadway success for songwriters Charles Strouse (music) and Lee Adams (lyrics), and it also elevated Dick Van Dyke to stardom while consolidating the success of Chita Rivera, who was coming off a lengthy stint with West Side Story.
  5. The cast does a great job bringing the score to life (with the exception of Chynna Phillips, who just wasn't the right for Kim MacAfee). This TV-movie version is MUCH more faithful to the real musical than the bizarre s movie with Dick Van Dike and Vivian Leigh -- that old movie cut all but a couple of the songs, added wacky plot changes, and changed he character of the music a meztishakarlandanayaforcehammer.infoinfos:
